Lodging update – October 19, 2020

Fredericksburg is still going strong, and we are continuously welcoming guests!  Masks are required in establishments with social distancing as well, just as it is in most of Texas.  Most restaurants are open, and many wineries, with some few changes.  The most important thing to do as you plan a trip is plan ahead!  Wine shuttles are still going to those wineries they can, with new rules.  Make reservations ahead of time for that.  Make reservations for dinner well ahead of your trip.  Enchanted Rock requires advance reservations, as does the Pacific War Museum, for an admission time.  Wildseed Farms is open, Cross Mountain and Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park are great for short hikes, and on the third weekend of the month, Trade Days is open.

Here at Das Garten Haus we our managing guests at breakfast with safe distancing. Remember that breakfast is provided with your stay here – served at 8:30 in our dining room daily. There are very few B&B’s with breakfast provided, and lines can get long at restaurants.  We are not booking back to back nights in any rooms, nor are we taking “that night” reservations.  All this is done to enable us to thoroughly clean and sanitize rooms. We’d love to have you visit!

Welcome to Das Garten Haus Bed and Breakfast and Das Garten Haus Guesthouse! We now have two, separate properties right next door to each other – our original B&B serving a full breakfast, and our Guesthouse – no breakfast but great restaurant options in walking distance. Please click on Guesthouse to read about our newest property – a newly refurbished bungalow.  Read about our original B&B below – now in its 26th year of operation!

The original Das Garten Haus Bed and Breakfast was built by a retired rancher in the late 1940’s as a private home. When Lynn and Kevin MacWithey moved to Fredericksburg in 1994 with the intention of operating a B&B, they found this beautiful home with three private suites already part of the original construction, and knew it would be a perfect home for them, and bed and breakfast for their guests. With minimal changes, they were able to open their inn in the fall of 1994.

Unique to the Texas Hill Country, and Fredericksburg in particular, Das Garten Haus is a true, traditional Bed and Breakfast only 1/2 mile from downtown. Lynn and Kevin live on site in the main residence and operate the inn. Lynn serves a full breakfast every morning in the dining room for the guests of the bed and breakfast. They utilize fresh vegetables and herbs from their garden as the seasons permit. While there is no breakfast at the guesthouse, there’s a great restaurant just across the street called Emma and Ollies.

After 25 years in business, Lynn and Kevin are also excellent concierges of Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country, present to answer your questions, make dinner reservations, provide maps, directions, short-cuts, and parking tips. They look forward to welcoming you to their Garden House. “Our years in the B&B business have brought us the finest of customers, and we strive to be the finest of hosts.”
